With roots firmly ensconced in Northumberland and following many years of travelling, where I was inspired artistically by the vibrancy of fabrics, jewellery and nature in the Far East, Antipodes and Southern States of the USA, I returned to the UK with a vision for the jewellery designs I wanted to create for discerning clientele.
After months of research, I found the materials that were best suited to my ideas and now use Ceramic Beads, most notably Raku, .925 Sterling Silver, Bronze, Pewter, Waxed Irish Linen and Greek Leather.

The distinctive Raku ceramic beads used in these pieces owe their rustic quality and vibrancy to the Raku firing technique originating in ancient Japan which is capable of producing effects that cannot be achieved by any other means. The volcanic clays are individually hand-moulded into beads and coated in oxides and glazes. They are then fired rapidly, removed from the kiln when still hot and placed into a heap of combustible material (usually paper or wood shavings), thus producing a finish of the most amazing, mesmeric pools of colour.
I hope to have brought out the earthy quality of these beads by utilizing other natural materials within my designs. The Sterling Silver contrasts beautifully against the Greek leather and allows the Raku beads to find their own natural resting place on the leather strands without the need for glue.
The lack of symmetry in some pieces demonstrates my quirky outlook and by using stringing techniques that are as individual as the beads, the finished pieces result in something completely symbiotic, reflecting nature perfectly.
